Well, here it is. My completely finished Carnaby Skirt. I actually like it a lot more than I thought I might. The length is good. The fabric is nice and thick with great drape. I like the tweed look. And it looks great with boots! I might actually wear this quite a bit in winter :)

Pancakes

Would you believe that these are my first made-from-scratch pancakes. Not only that, but they are 'Ed friendly'. i.e. Gluten/Dairy free. And they were a hit! Add bananas, blueberries and real maple syrup. Kai is currently eating his 4th one! I could only manage 2 myself.

Recipe:
2 cups gluten free flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 organic egg
2 cups soy milk
75g melted butter

Sift flour, baking powder and caster sugar into a bowl. In a separate bowl whisk egg, milk and butter. Add wet mixture to the dry mixture and whisk until smooth (my arm is a bit tired!).

Heat a non-stick pan and spray a tiny bit of oil. Pour in 75ml at a time and flip once bubbles appear on the top. Only 1min on the 2nd side.

Keep pancakes warm on a plate with foil while you make the rest. Serve with your favourite topping. I managed to make about 11 or 12 from this mixture. Enough for 4 people I think.

Just one of seven blankets I'm making up. Lots of babies to be born in the next little while. I used pre-made bias binding, though, to speed up the process. As I learnt from my last two blankets, making bias binding with voile is no walk in the park. Shame I attached it to the wrong side on this one though.

One more cute very quick finish. It was supposed to have a thicker necktie so it's more of a scarf, but I ran out. I was only using scraps anyway. He's still super cute in it :)

Some of you may know that my first born was actually premature. He came into the world at 28 weeks. My 2nd child came into the world 1 day off due date. Take at look at the size difference!

Kai: 13 November 2007 - 1.4kg (3lb 1oz)
Ryder: 25 January 2011 - 4.6kg (10lb 2oz)

Talk about instant gratification. I bought this layer cake yesterday and wanted to make something up straight away. This is what I came up with. It's a shame I cant get any yardage for the backing fabric until September. Lots of babies to be born soon, hopefully another girl :)

The family and I went on a bit of a road trip to Brunswick East to a little organic food store my hubby wanted to try. When our GPS finally got us there, I noticed out of the corner of my eye a red sign saying "GJ Discount". I wondered if it was the fabric store I had heard of before. Walking a little closer, I could see that it was. And boy, what a find! I was in fabric heaven. Soooo many pretty things to look at. I was on a serious budget though so anything I bought would have had to come out of my weekly pocket money. I saw this layer cake of Aneela Hoey's Little Apples and couldn't resist. When I got home I was thinking of all the different easy layouts I could use. This is one of them. What do you think?
